General Program
We offer two classes each week that are open to everyone: a Wednesday evening class in Norfolk, and a Sunday morning class in Hampton.
The General Program introduces basic Buddhist view, meditation and action, along with various other teachings and practices, all within the Mahayana Buddhist tradition of Atisha and Je Tsongkhapa, to help practitioners deepen their knowledge and experience of Buddhism.
All the teachings are based on commentaries by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
Foundation Program
The purpose of the Foundation Program is to provide a systematic presentation of particular subjects of Mahayana Buddhism to enable practitioners to deepen their knowledge and experience of Buddhism.
In this class we will be studying the text Eight Steps to Happiness. This inspiring book reveals essential methods for developing universal love and compassion, the source of true happiness for both self and others.
It gives a detailed and practical commentary to eight beautiful verses that comprise one of Buddhism's best-loved and most enduring teachings, Eight Verses of Training the Mind. Composed by the great Tibetan Bodhisattva, Langri Tangpa, this short poem shows how we can transform all life's difficulties into valuable spiritual insights.
In this book, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso shares the immeasurably rich insight of this ancient wisdom with all those seeking lasting happiness and greater meaning in their modern lives.
The Foundation Program requires enrollment and is recommended for those that have been attending General Program classes on a regular basis. If you are interested in exploring the Foundation Program, please email us at info@meditationinhamptonroads.org.
