Road Signs on the Path to Enlightenment

About the retreat

“When, in this way, you have correctly realized the essential points of the three principal aspects of the path, dear one, withdraw into solitude, generate strong effort, and quickly accomplish the final goal.”
   — Je Tsongkhapa

The Three Principal Aspects of the Path

We all long for happiness. Our normal perspective on life, however, directly prevents us from finding that happiness. Why is everyone so unhappy? Because we are seeking happiness where happiness cannot be found. We see happiness as depending on things outside ourself, whereas Buddha taught that happiness lies within our mind. He showed how through meditation we can tap into an inner light of joy, wisdom and compassion, and gradually allow this enlightened perspective to pervade our whole life.

Guided by the ancient Buddhist text The Three Principal Aspects of the Path, combined with Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s most recent book, Modern Buddhism, we will learn to connect with the extraordinary power within our mind, and to improve every facet of our lives. In this day retreat, we experience the joy of letting go of what holds us back along our spiritual path, and instead learn to respond to the difficulties in our life fearlessly with wisdom and skill.

There will be three retreat sessions:

  • Part 1 ~ Letting Go of What Doesn’t Work
  • Part 2 ~ Embracing Compassion
  • Part 3 ~ Embracing Wisdom
